Beneath the streets of Whitehall, the Cabinet War Rooms were where Churchill's government ran Britain's response to the Second World War — a working underground bunker that was simply locked up when the lights went off in 1945 and left largely untouched. Today it forms part of the Imperial War Museum, paired with a biographical museum on Churchill's life.
